Butts-Mehre Sports Center

Nick and his football team had the privilege of touring the Butts-Mehre Sports Center. For those of you who aren't aware, this is where the UGA football team meets, practices, and works out. This was a very happy group of 10-11 year old boys. The tour was given by Robert Miles, UGA Alum and former UGA football player. The boys were able to sit in the defensive team meeting room and talked to (#35) Rennie Curran. The boys toured the locker room where they were able to get several autographs from the football players. At the end of the tour the boys played a short game of football on the UGA practice field. An afternoon of memories.

Strawberry Pickin' with Friends

Friday Alex and her class went to Washington Farms for a strawberry picking field trip. While there Farmer John's wife, Ms. Donna told the children how strawberries are grown. Afterward the children enjoyed the petting zoo, which Alex held her nose through. Her favorite animals were the baby bunnies, the peacock and the baby chicks. Then it was off to the strawberry field and yummy strawberries.

Bridesmaid in the Q and U wedding

On Monday, Bethlehem Christian Academy K-4 classes participated in the Q and U wedding. I've had several people ask me what that is exactly. It is a union of the letters "q and u", so we can make words like quack, quite, queen. The ceremony is performed to help the children better understand the blend sound "q and u" make.

All of the children participate, but some have larger roles in the ceremony. Names were drawn for the bride, groom, 3 bridesmaids and groomsmen, flower girl, and ring bearer. Alex was selected to be a bridesmaid. She was escorted by a little boy named Alex. Isn't that cute.

After the wedding party entered the flower girl and ring bear entered, the flower girl dropping the letters "q" and "u" down the aisle. Then in came the bride, ceremony performed, Q and U shook hands, they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. QU, then back down the aisle under a shower of Q-tips tossed gently at them. That's a very brief summary.

Then it was back to the class rooms for wedding cake, that's right they even had a three-tiered wedding cake topped with the letters Q and U and complete with a fountain at the bottom.

The all amazing Nick

This morning Alex and I attended Nick's award ceremony for his grades during the third nine weeks of school. His awards included:

Honor Roll-student earned 90-100 numeric grades and
has more 2's than 3's in all academic areas

Shining Light-one student is chosen from each class to receive this award.
This student has shown tremendous improvement in an academic area.
Or in Nick's case his teacher chose him because he continues to do well academically.

People Respecting Others (PRO)- Student must earn all 3's in each of the behavioral factors affecting achievement.

Math Masters-this is a new award, so I don't have the criterior for it,
but he received 99 in Math, so I'm assuming it has something to do with that.

He only has nine more weeks in elementary school, I pray he goes out with a bang. Maybe even be chosen as Star Student again this year. I'll keep you posted.
CONGRATULATIONS NICK!! Dad and I are so proud of you!

Too Fast

Time has passed by too fast, and all in the blink of an eye. My baby girl is five today, I can't believe it, where have the last five years gone? Here's hoping the next five years won't go by nearly as fast.
