Star Citizen
The school year is finally coming to a close. The last few weeks of school are always hectic for me, with all the end of school year projects I like to do. But I'm exhausted and can't wait for the weekend!! Only two more days!! During our lifetime, we have all heard or used the saying, "take one for the team." Under normal conditions one would anticipate having to make a personal sacrifice for the team to prevail and be victorious. Some people might even think that, "taking one for the team" is something that is bad. While I personlly feel it can be wonderful. With all of this in mind, I sat back and thought long and hard about which member of our classroom family is worthy of "taking one for the team" as our Star Citizen. Several names came to mind, but one truly stood out among the other members of out team. This team player more than meets the criteria for the Star Citizen Award. He/she is even-tempered, compassionate, and one of the most respected children in our classroom family. His/her ability to consistently maintain a wonderful attitude can become contaigious and others are always willing to follow his/her lead. This player's infectious laugh always follows his/her great ability to even find a monment to laugh at his/herself when the joke is truly on all of us. He/she is a fair young person and believes that all of us deserve more than one chance in life to prove ourselves worthy. His/her eagerness to assist his/her peers actually motivates them to become better students as well as better people. Because of this student's unselfishness, he/she has gained the respect of many others in his/her classroom family. This young person does his/her best everyday in all things that he/she toches, whether it be academic or athletically related. He/she is a pleasure to teach, and I look forward each and every morning for one of the greatest bear hugs I have ever received in my life. The player that we wish to "take of for the team" is Nick Borg our Star Citizen.
Nick's teacher Mrs. Gebo mentioned nominating Nick for the Star Citizen Award a couple weeks ago. What is the Star Citizen Award? you ask. It an award given to one student in each class that demonstrates being a good citizen. A narrative was written by Mrs. Gebo and was reviewed by the Principal and V. Principal. Mrs. Gebo told me last Friday that Nick was chosen to represent his class, but mums the word, I couldn't tell him a thing about it all weekend. So today, Donna, Alex and I had the privilege to attend the Star Citizen Awards ceremony. Yes, I cried when Nick's narrative was being read, but I just couldn't help myself. I'm so proud, I often wonder if I'm providing my children with the tools they're going to need to be productive/upstanding adults. This is something that lets me know I'm on the right path. Here is the narrative Mrs. Gebo wrote about my boy;

You should be proud. Nick is a great kid and I am always happy to see him. He has a wonderful sense of humor, a kind spirit and the best giggle.
Be proud and congratulations to Nick...he is a Star Citizen to all of us, not just his class. B
Here, here! I was just telling Amy F. today what a great kid Nick is. He is such a sweet and special guy. And his giggle does rock.
